Cricket and India

          Cricket   and   India

Cricket holds a very unique spot in the heart of every single Indian. There is perhaps no single person in India who can claim to have not played Cricket in their younger days,at least among the male portion of the population. The game was brought to India by the British colonists and has, over time, become a significant part of the Indian lifestyle. The craze that sweeps the entire nation ,bar none, once every four years during the ICC Cricket World Cup is testament to the Cricket mania that is prevalent in this country.

India has produced many well respected legends of this game such as Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid,Sunil Gavaskar, to name a few. The present generation of Indian Cricketers are considered, by many across the world, to be among them, such as M.S.Dhoni and Virat Kohli, being considered legendary players in their own right. Cricket in India is managed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The BCCI is the richest cricket board in the cricket world.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) is professional Twenty20(T20) cricket league in India contested during March or April and May  of every year by eight teams representing eight different cities of India. But in 2020 the IPL has held between September 19 and November 10 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The league was founded by the Board of Control for Cricket India (BCCI) in 2008. The IPL has an exclusive window in ICC Future Tours Programme. The IPL is the most attended cricket league in the world and in 2014 ranked sixth by average attendance among all sports leagues. In 2010, the IPL became the first sporting event in the world to be broadcast live on YouTube. The brand value of IPL in 2018 was  US$6.3 billion, according to Duff & Phelps. And the brand value of IPL in 2019 was US$ 6.7 billion according to Duff & Phelps.

According to BCCI, the 2015 IPL is further proof of the Cricket loving nature of the Indian populace and reinforces the fact that we have a special place in our souls for this sports
